Blogger Parade Of Homes: My Bedroom

Finally! I cleaned my room so here's the tour you've all been waiting for. This is where the magic happens. LOL! I really hate the decor in here. It's too country cottage for my ever evolving taste. If I had the money (which I don't since it's all been sucked into the adoption fund) I'd trash this furniture and buy something more contemporary. Maybe something in a dark wood or black. If I had the time, energy, and motivation (which I don't) I'd paint the furniture black and then distress it. But this is what I'm stuck with until I win the lottery. This is the view from the doorway looking into the room. This master bedroom is part of what sold me on the house.
Normally in these older homes, the bedrooms are so small that you have to stand sideways and squeeze between the dresser and the bed to get through the room. But not here. This baby is ginormous! Here's the view from the other side of the room. That armoire hides my TV.
I love this old ratty chair. My room-mate had this in her room when we lived together way back in our early twenties. Then she got married and moved out but left the chair. So I inherited it. I keep saying I'm going to find some cute fabric and have it recovered. That's the bag tree back there. They just keep multiplying somehow.
Did you notice these hanging over by my bed? I just got them a couple of days ago. They're gorgeous! I used to have other frames hanging there but sold them in a garage sale because I actually have the intention of completely re-decorating this room soon. Have all new bedding and paint. Just need to find the time to get started. Anyway, I found an artist on E-bay (my secret cult) who custom makes these and matches them to your nursery bedding. I sent her some swatches of the fabric and she went to work. She's amazing. I absolutely love them and can't wait to hang them over Mia's crib.
Here's a close up of the details. Ladybugs and dragonflies. Is that talent or what? My mom is making my nursery bedding. The fabric we're using is the header for this blog. The polka dots are from one of the complentary fabrics she'll be using. I can't wait to start on the nursery!
Here's another one of my dumb ideas. This is the stencil border that goes around the top of the walls in this room. It took me about a month to do the walls. So then I thought it'd be cute to do the ceiling fan, too. It is... but it was torture to do it. Never again! Oops looks like I've got a lightbulb out. And yucko.... I forgot to clean the blades on that thing. Geesh.
And this is the reason that my grandmother is making Mia's 100 Good Wishes Quilt. The photo doesn't even do it justice really. The detail is amazing. There are even little buttons and pearls on it. (Grandma, I know you said not to put it on the bed because it was not that kind of quilt. I don't. I just wanted to show it off a little. So relax, okay.) My grandmother is an extremely talented quilter as you can all see. Isn't this beautiful? Her quilts have won competitions.
So there you have it. Stay tuned. I'll add new pics when I finally get around to changing the decor. I've only had the paint and bedding for about uhhhh. .... well, a year. But I really am going to get this done over the winter. Seriously. I have to. Won't have time once my girl gets here.

Your room is so cozy! And you could totally re-do that furniture in an ebony stain and change out the knobs and there you go! It's good looking furniture- no need to scrap it!
And those letters- LOVE the letters! You MUST tell me who made those, what's her seller id? Dag they are cute!

Beautiful!! I love all the wood and the TV chest is awesome! We're "not allowed" to have a TV in our bedroom (something about it ruining one's *ahem* sex life) but if the day ever comes, I don't think I would ever leave the room!
So, what will it take to get you to give up the details of the person who made the letter frames???

That quilt is AH-MAZE-ING!! So beautiful. Now, if it is not "that kind of quilt" what kind is it?? I'm so lame, I know. Love how you've got your Mia letters right where you can see them when you get up in the morning.

LOL...I have a bag tree also!!! I had that silly thing in my foyer for the logest time and it drove me crazy until I figured out it could have that use in my b-room!!!

Beautiful quilt too, how lucky to have such talent in the family.

Ok I'll give up the artist only because I really love her work and I don't mind sharing. Her name is Erica Etter and her store on Ebay is "Doodling Art". I just checked and she doesn't have any letters up but if you're interested drop her an e-mail and ask about them.

wendy- the quilt is more of a decorative quilt not for everyday use. It'd have to be professionally cleaned. The pic doesn't show all the detail. Most of the work is raised, textured with button and pearl detail. Very dainty.

Hee hee! My parents have that same furniture. I love it. It doesn't look country cottagey in their room at all but they have different decor overall ... but actually almost the same color carpet! LOL
I love your name hanging!!! Will have to get the name of that ebayer once I get to pick out crib bedding! :)

WOW, your grandmother does great work. I also love the fact that you sent the material from Mia's room as your quilt square. Now my little Maddy will have a little bit of Mia in her 100 Good Wishes quilt
