Look what I did last night....

Mia needed her own Christmas stocking to match mine and Griffey's. I think I've had this thing for about 10 years. I bought it for my first Christmas in this house because I finally had a fireplace mantle in which to hang a stocking. Yes, it's one of those el-cheapo $2 things from the corner drugstore. I was young, a new homeowner and broke so I couldn't do a lot with the decorations. So I bought some glue and green glitter and went to work like I was back in elementary school art class. I've made a few stockings over the years. First there was the husband. He got one with his green glitter name. Then Griffey came so he got one, too. Then the husband became the ex and I burned his stocking. Okay just kidding. I just put it in the trash. Then the live in with potential came and he got a stocking with his green glitter name. Then I had to burn that one, too. :) So now it's just me and the Griffster. But we decided to make one for Mia even though she won't be home this Christmas. She's already here in our hearts.
The finished product all hung by the chimney with care. I got a little carried away with the "m" in her name but otherwise it turned out pretty good. Maybe next year I'll spring for some fancy new stockings with our names embroidered on them.

Okay here's a funny story. My sister bought this penguin decoration thingy for me many years ago. I was still married at the time. She got a black marker and decided to do a little personalization. Very cute idea. Well, I didn't want to pitch the thing after my status changed so I bought some red paint and painted over the no longer used married name which was across the bottom. You can still see the remnants if you look closely. I think the flash in the camera picked it up cuz you can't really tell in person.
Then see how the star is on that metal twisty thing? So I just turned it around to the back and no more "Scott". Well, then a few years later came the live in with potential who I thought was going to be permanent (only because he told his mother that I was the girl he would marry).
But apparently I was mistaken. Anybody got any gold paint?

You got the holiday rockin' girl.

The decorations are nothing a trip to Michael's won't fix.

I bought the cutest personalized Christmas mantle thing just before the engagement went in the toilet. I just let him keep it....bugs me I keep telling the place I got it from to take me off their list but they keep sending me 'anniversary' emails. I just got 'Congrats on 16 months since your wedding!' It used to make me cry...Hah! Now I hit reply and say 'Congrats on 16 months of sanity since the wedding didn't happen!'

Men, they even muck up our Christmas decorations!

Very cute!!! This is why I like animals sometimes more than some people. After all this turmoil in your life, the most loyal companion has been your sweet Grif.
BTW, I like the dancing penguin on your sidebar!

Your mantle looks beautiful - love it.
I bought Ava a stocking last year. I thought we would have her this year.
We put the stockings up Sunday, I just couldn't bring myself to hang Ava's.

Love the stockings and they look beautiful on the mantel. As for the penguin decoration, all I can say is, atleast it wasn't a tattoo, get out the paint and you are good to go!!!

That just put a smile on my face to see little Mia's stocking hung by the chimney with care. :-) Lets hope that by this time next year, Santa will be able to fill it and she'll be able to get everything out in person. :-)

Funny how pulling out that box of ornaments each year is a trip down memory lane.

LOVE Mia's stockin', Krista. Very sweet.

Have you seen the penquin pjs at Lands End? They are for little ones and they are a pretty jonquil yellow fleece. I saw them and immediately thought of you!

I stumbled across your blog a couple of weeks ago and couldn't help but smile at your posts (and then had to go back and read it from the beginning). I had to comment on this one though, I can totally agree with how cleansing it is to trash/burn the ex's stuff! (Although I don't know how well the stockings would burn, I definitely would have tried to!!!!)

Here's to happy holidays and for time to fly until your referral!
