Kim & Alex

Kim and I met last February in our parent education classes that were required as part of our homestudy. We immediately sought each other out, along with Kati, because we were the only 3 singles in the group. It started as 3 single mommas-to-be going out to dinner, making friends and lending each other support but morphed into our local Single Adoptive Moms group. We now have moms represented from China, Guatemala, and Vietnam. Some are waiting but some are home with their children. We meet once a month to socialize. It's been a wonderful experience to bond with other single women who are building their families through adoption. We'll even have our own booth set up at the annual adoption fair in January advertising our group! For any woman (or couple for that matter) out there looking for that connection and support but can't find a "group" to join.... start your own! We did and it's been amazing. These women are like family now. I'm so excited to have found them not just for me but for Mia, too. She'll now have her own little international playgroup and I'm building friendships that'll last a lifetime.

Kim has a college age son from an early marriage that she raised as a single mom after her divorce. But she decided that her family wasn't complete and decided on adoption. She originally was planning to adopt a baby girl. We even bought matching cribs! But then she fell in love with this little face you see above and completely altered her plan. She feels led to this 7 yr old boy by something bigger than herself. She visited him a few months back but tomorrow she gets on a plane to bring him home as her son. Her older son, Rob, is so excited that he finally has a little brother. I'm so happy for them!!

Please say a little prayer for their family. First that they have a safe trip. But more importantly that Alex transitions well to his new life. It will be difficult with the language barrier to overcome. But Kim has faith. And I have faith in her. She's going to be a great momma to this beautiful little boy that she loves so much already. I can't wait to see them get to know each other and watch him blossom. Good luck Kim! I'll be thinking of you both and I can't wait to meet Alex.

It's so great you have a "Village" Krista! We have one here too- it's the most amazing thing that's happened to me this year. This little group of other Single mamas who have and continue to add to my life- Without these women in my life, this whole experience would be completely different! I'm amazed and astounded by the very experience of it all! Best wishes for your friend & her new son- He is adorable and I'm sure with such a great support group, he will be one lucky little boy with a strong and capable Mommy & so many "aunties" doting on him!
