Pistol Packin' Mamas!

For those of you who don't know me, a little explanation may be in order here. In my line of work, I'm required to carry a gun and am expected to know how to use it. A couple of times a year we have to qualify with our firearms. This is basically like a test where you're given specific instructions of how to shoot.... such as how many rounds, which position (standing, kneeling, left handed, one handed, etc). You have to maintain a certain score or...... well, I guess I'd be working at McDonald's or something.

Before our actual qual session I like to get in a little practice. So I mention this to Connie and she says she's never handled a gun before. I ask if she'd like to tag along and offer to teach her. She was a little scared at first so I shot a bit to get her used to the noise and to show her the proper position and grip.

But she worked through her jitters and was an excellent student. Except that I kept having to yell at her like a drill sergeant to "stick her butt out" because she kept leaning back and bouncing on her toes with her first few shots. Like this photo shows.

But she got the hang of it. In fact, she did extremely well. As you can see by the looks of her target, she must have some pent up hostility towards blue men.

We had a great time, in spite of the fact that it was about 110 degrees in there. Grabbed dinner (and margaritas, of course) after target practice and spent some time gabbing. That's what I call a great night! Girlfriends, guns, and tequila.

Oh.. and by the way. I shot a 98. Only missed one shot. We did a moving and shooting course. If you have trouble walking and chewing gum, as they say, this course would be difficult. You're basically walking and shooting at the same time for most of the course. I threw my shot on a section where I had to walk towards the target cuz I was walking too fast and my gun was bouncing. Connie, remember how you asked me about the shotgun? Well, my shoulder is sore and I have a little bruise. I hate that monster! I know some people are uncomfortable with the idea of guns, but my personal opinion is that all women should learn how to handle a weapon. It is very empowering!

So I am sitting here trying to guess what employment would require you to walk and shoot at the same time. Cop? FBI? CIA? Probation Officer? Bounty Hunter? Security?
The suspense is killing me!

Duh...what happened to the comment I left? Did Blogger eat it..or did I say something funky? Not much would surprise me with Blogger at this point.

Anyhoo...it was along the lines of thanks for the fine early training, Krista! That and I am glad we got it in the right order of girlfriends, guns....then tequila! :0)

So cool! I'm jealous! I used to want to be a Charlie's Angel as a little girl (don't ask), so I am doubly jealous!

LOL Now that's an interesting Girl's Night Out! :) Sounds fun. I used to be a pretty good shot.... got badges in riflery and archery at camp! LOL And my ex-fiance' had a weapon fetish and had several guns.. handguns, shotguns and rifles. He had one he wanted me to carry but I never felt comfortable enough with it to carry it (probably mostly because it would have been too easy to shoot the bastard when he got drunk and mean). I still don't think I'd be comfortable carrying one around with me but a night out shooting sounds fun! :)
