Doing Better

So we're a week into the new year. I decided I'm not making any real resolutions this go 'round. Lord knows I failed miserably at last year's. Johnny was right. I never should've announced them to the world. Maybe that was what set me up for failure.

It's a little sad to look back on my blog post from this time last year. I was on fire with my enthusiasm and motivation. But somewhere along 2008.... it fizzled out. Again. And I'm still in the same place. Needing to lose the same weight and with a million house projects to do. Okay maybe not a million. But even though I accomplished some of the projects around the house, there's so much more I would've like to have completed.

Maybe I should make a big new year's resolution announcement to gain weight and procrastinate. I mean, I did the exact opposite of my plans last year. So maybe it's just reverse psychology. I'll say I'm going to gain as much weight as I can, lay on my arse and watch TV and not do a damn thing around the house...but instead the opposite will happen. Isn't that the way new year's resolutions work? LOL!

In reality, I'm only resolving to do one thing this year and it can be summed up in one simple word. Better. I plan to do better. That's my key phrase. I'm not going to say "I'll lose X amount of weight" or "I'll work out 5 times a week" or "I'll stop being late for work" or "I'll get this project done or that project done". Nope. No specifics. No set goals. Just do better.

Ahhh... I feel better already.

Wise words, Special K. I'm going with a one word thought this year as well -- patience... I am seeking to become more patient. And I'm looking for progress, not perfection. LOL.

"Better" is a great resolution! Good for you! Mine never seem to become a reality either so I just don't make them any more :o)

Same here! I like "better", it's simple and attainable.

Sounds like the perfect resolution!! I never keep mine either.....I usually only make through January before I fall off or give up.

Hope you have a great weekend:)

Don't look at what you didn't do - look at what you did. Spending time with those you love, welcoming a new neice into your family, getting a beautiful redecoration project completed, offering support and friendship to others. And what if you were late for work a few times: I bet you did a lot of unpaid overtime too! And so on. Much better to look at the previous year and see all the wonderful things accomplished, than to look back and feel as if we failed for not being Superwoman :)

Better...I like it. You can do it!

You're not on your own, Love. I love your "reverse psychology" approach!

It is hard to keep up enthusiasm for the adoption when it is taking WAY longer then you thought. It is hard to keep up enthusiasm for anything for that long.

Personally - my only resolution was to win the lottery!!

I really like that one. I sorta had a similar one. I decided try and get back into the swing of things and not go whole hog or drop out. Somewhere in the middle. Like you said....Just do better.

Keep smilin!

Great thoughts! "Better" is better. I love the new year, but hate the set up to fail that so many of us do. Sounds like you have it all figured out.

Hey, it is what it is.

At least you have it in the back of your mind. Right?

Sounds like a great plan. Although, I like the gain weight and procrastinate plan too.

And don't say you're going to stop being late for work. You will fail.

I like that approach!

'Better' is good. That's always a winner no matter the specifics.

Heh, I'm just waiting to feel some love for the 'China diet' LOL

Better is a great resolution!!! I never keep mine..one year I decided I was going to smile at every one that past by me...I tried and some people looked at me like I had three eyeballs...it actually made me want to give them the birdie but I kept smiline : )
This year I decided to de-lurk (told you that already) and so far no one has sent me nasty emails...so it's all good for now!

This was exactly how I was feeling-I just couldn't quite put it in words.
Just do better. Simple but effective. I like it.
