Neighbors, Bad Guys and Dirty Roofs

  • What do they all have in common? Nothing really. But they're the subjects of my bullets today. So read on.
  • My wonderfully amazing awesome next door neighbors finally sold their house .... much to my chagrin. I hated to see them go. Their son was the same age as Tanner and their daughter the same as Tatum. After all the years they've lived next door, the kids had finally become friends just within the last year. The T's will be sad they've moved away. Plus the wife was pregnant again and due in January. With a girl. I was so excited to know I'd have a built in playmate for Mia right next door. Damn... this sucks. Not to mention all the times the husband mowed my grass, shoveled my snow or just helped with little odd jobs. I'm really really gonna miss them. But we've vowed to stay in touch.
  • The new neighbor is a single guy. Haven't met him yet. But he closed on the house at 4pm. And at 2am woke me up when he decided to move a few things in. Not the best way to make a good first impression in the neighborhood. Seriously. I mean who is this guy? Dracula? Who moves into a house in the middle of the night?
  • I got called in to work this morning to help with a bank robbery. It seems only one Robbery Detective was willing to give up their Saturday. They pretty much always call in 2 detectives for anything. So the Robbery Squad Sergeant called the Burglary Squad Sergeant to see if any of us were willing to help out. And he still went thru the 4 more senior people on the squad before getting down to me. I guess no one wanted to work on their day off. Hey... overtime is overtime, people. I've got a baby on the way. If someone wants to throw money at me, I'll catch it.
  • The bank robber said he did it cuz he lost his job, his house was in foreclosure and his wife just left him. I kinda felt sorry for the guy. I guess it's just a sign of the times. But he didn't plan it very well. The getaway car was his own. And he robbed a bank that was inside a grocery store. Which means double the surveillance cameras. And extra time burned trying to run from the bank, thru the store to the exit. Pretty dumb idea. Maybe he wanted to get caught. Maybe he decided jail was a better alternative for him at this point. Like he had nothing else and nowhere to go. Sad. Very sad. We let him make a phone call to a family member cuz he was very cooperative with us. He told them to box his stuff up and put it in storage because he wouldn't be home for years. Can you imagine being on the receiving end of a phone call like that? I mean how do you react to that news?
  • Here's another crazy story. Myself and another detective served a search warrant on Thursday to recover a bunch of stolen property. This female and her boyfriend had broken into a house, brought a U-haul with them and then just basically went shopping inside this person's house picking and choosing what they wanted. Took a couch, loveseat, chairs, end tables, lamps, mattresses, and other odds and ends. She said she just moved into a new apartment and needed furniture. Seriously. But she didn't admit to breaking in to the house. She came up with this bullshit story about buying the furniture from the guy who lived in the house. She was nice as pie until she realized we were taking her to jail. Then she became a raging bitch spitting out insults at us. As she was being escorted into the jail by the corrections officer she said something about how we were probably even gonna vote for Mc-cain. The other detective and I just looked at each other and cracked up laughing. I've been called a lot of things in this line of work but that's the first time a suspect has brought politics into it. Guess you had to be there..... but it was funny. That line just didn't fit with all the other nastiness she was spewing. Unless you're like my sister and a die hard Ob*ma supporter. Then I guess that would've been totally offensive. LOL!
  • Sea Star just called to chat while I was in the middle of typing this post. She was on her way to Home D*epot to buy bleach to clean her roof. I know her IRL and have been to her house. So I've seen firsthand that she's a little OCD with the cleaning thing. (love ya babe.) But I was like WTF? Who the hell cleans their roof? I'd never even heard of such a thing and can positively say I've never seen any of my neighbors do this. Nor have I done it. So it started a discussion about how Sea Star's neighborhood requires homeowners to clean their roofs. Which I thought was absolutely insane. I mean the thought of climbing up on my roof to power wash it. No freakin' way am I doing that. Sea Star was shocked by my reaction and asked "But how do you get all the mold and stuff off it?". To which I replied "It's a freakin roof! Who cares?!". So she and I decided I should blog this story and ask the very important questions.... Do you clean your roof? Do your neighbors? Or do you agree with me that it's a ridiculous idea? We're both very curious to see the responses.

Uh, hell no, I do no clean my roof. Not only is it a steep pitched roof which we would probably fall off of and break our necks, uh, it's a feakin roof! You might get me to clean my kitchen floor, but even that's a stretch. :op

You didn't mention if Dracula was cute...well, is he?

Sad about the bank robber.

I never would have imagined anyone having the idea of going 'shopping' at someone's house like that...

sad about the bank robber guy
funny about the mcain comment
as far as the roof and seastar - well I don't live to far from her so I know her pain of keeping things clean down here with mold. Our house has a metal roof and is basically concrete and pavers. We powerwash often - everything. So technically don't have to go on our roof (we'd probably die with the angle) but we do powerwash a lot. We spent yesterday doing our paver driveways and the neighbor who I believe likes the look of black all over hers :)

When I was a bank manager, branches were robbed a couple of times a year. Usually with the note thing, etc. Never happened to me, but I always would be thinking,
now come on. Think Credit Card fraud. seriously.

Maybe it's a Florida thing because I clean my roof once a year. I have a nice man who comes to bleach and power wash my roof and patio so that it stays nice and sparkly in the FL sunshine.

No, I have never cleaned my roof as we just got a new one but my neighbors just had theirs down by a company and it does look nice:)

I actually feel a bit sorry for bank robber guy too...but then, I can be a sucka.

Yeah. I've cleaned my roof. I wanted it to look good when it is replaced. Seriously, I do clean it. Roof Revival is a whole business for roof cleaning. I can't stand that mold/moss that grows where trees overhang so cleaning happens.

You shorten the life of your roof by power washing it. Crazy anal retentive people! Go Nader!

I know I am touched with the OCD bug, but all bets are off when it comes to the roof!!

I have never cleaned my roof, nor have I ever seen any neighbors clean theirs. We have a lot of rules in this neighborhood, but that is not one of them!!

I kind of felt bad for the bank robber too....I can only imagine what you see and hear on a daily basis.

Not a big roof cleaner, but our neighbors just cleaned theirs for the first time ever and I asked my hubby if they got a new roof. LOL

I'm trippin on the uhaul chick. I pray that never happens to me. The uhaul showing up at my house and shopping part. ;)

I love your blog!!! Always a smile on my face when I'm done reading.

I'm with you. No roof cleaning in these parts either!

Can't say your job is boring, that's for sure.

uh.. yah, I clean my roof every year, plus power wash the house. If'n ya don't it'll be covered with moss and mildew in weeks and they make those pretty 30 year shinges ya paid thousands for turn into 5 year shingles. And it looks like Pa Kettle lives there.

Pretty common for areas with either really high humidity or lots of rain.

Okay first, if you're new single neighbor IS a vampire, that COULD be kinda sexy. Second, your work stories are always like reading a really good book so you should write one!!

Third. HELL to the NO. I can't imagine having any reason to clean my roof.

ps. belated happy bday to your little bro!

I must confess, this might just be the last time that we clean our roof! The dh can't walk and we have enough bleach containers in our garage to fill up an entire recycle truck. I'm pooped.

Uh no.. we don't clean the roof here. Of course, we dont' have an overy hanging trees and not much humidity. (Thank the Lord for that!)

Some people clean roofs for a reason, all the needles from pine trees can get into the gutter on roof and clog it up so that is why some people clean their roof.

Lumpy said...

Just a little note to the anonymous commenter: gutter and roof= 2 different things.

Sorry about that neighbors, but is the new guy cute?

Can't imagine cleaning my roof. Gutters, yes. Roof, uh - why?

Ummm... No ~ we don't clean our roof. Scary thought if I do say so myself. The drop off of the back is three stories - walk out basement. I wouldn't want anyone up there. Scary~

Dracula and the Cop could make for some interesting stories! ;o)
