Important Stuff Here

I'm taking a break from the fluff and nonsense that I normally post. This is serious business here. No seriously..... it is. Those in the adoption circuit are already hearing about all this I-600a/ I-800a stuff. I probably don't really need to explain it all.

I will say that it directly pertains to me and could adversely effect my adoption if I'm forced to switch to an I-800a. You see, my agency is not Hague accredited. From what I'm reading, if I have to switch to an I-800a that means I have to be with a Hague accredited agency. Since I'm not, I'd have to switch agencies. Which could mean that I have to start over from scratch. Which would really suck since I've already been in line for 28 months. But more importantly, I don't qualify under China's new regulations. So I can't start over. I'd be out. Done. No adoption. No Mia.

The only thing I know for sure right now is that everyone... and I mean everyone ... is interpreting this thing differently. I've read all kinds of theories and opinions on the internet from individual bloggers, from message boards, from Rumor Queen, from the JCICS, and from the USCIS websites. My agency has their own theories but have not put anything in writing to me and quite frankly I'm not sure that I completely trust what they're saying. My homestudy agency doesn't even know what I'm talking about. That's not comforting but par for the course it seems.

The bottom line is things would just be so much easier if those of us who started their adoptions pre-Hague and pre-China's new regulations were "grandfathered in" and allowed to continue extending their I-600a until the adoption is completed.

I'm not even saying for free. I've already gotten my one time free renewal. I have no problem paying for another one. Well, I mean it sucks and is not fair...but with this whole adoption process I've pretty much gotten used to that. Haven't we all, right? I just don't want to switch to the I-800a.

Anyway I'm adding some linkage here for all of you to get involved. I've already done my part. And I can tell you that it really truly only takes a few minutes to do. So do it.

Sign the petition here before October 16th. The goal is 20,000 signatures.

There's also a blog devoted to this issue and fight. Find it here.

Read about the Joint Council On International Children's Service Position on I-600a Renewals here. Most importantly look at the 5 ways you can help here. Send your e-mails and contact your Congressional representatives on October 14th, 15th and 16th.

As adoptive parents, we all need to stick together and support each other. Even if you're already home with your children. These changes are effecting all of us that are still waiting in one way or another. And if we're forced to switch to the I-800a it could be bad. Potentially very, very bad for some of us.

Thanks for sharing the link. I hope it is successful for you and all those who wait. Especially the children.

Best wishes.

Wow, that just sucks. Thanks for posting this, my name will definitely be on that petition!

Wait a minute....Are you saying your placing agency(the same one I am using) is NOT HAGUE ACCREDITED? How do I not know this? Why have they not sent out any correspondence on this issue? Are they doing anything to BECOME Hague accredited? They never told me this when I called them to inquire about the whole new I800 issue(which I HAVE to file, because I let the other paperwork expire). Great. Something else for me to freak out about! I'm really starting to feel like this isn't going to happen for us.

Could you e-mail me regarding any info you have about our placing agency? I can't believe I didn't know this.

I am signed 1358. I sure hope this helps. that would totally suck (and you know I don't use that word lightly) if everyone who started as an I-600a had to switch !

We signed. I also passed it along to others to sign as well. I feel just sick inside about this whole thing. I'm also pissed off that nobody seems to know what's going on.....I don't know why that should surprise me as it's been par for the course with this adoption. ((hugs))

Yep...the answers are different depending who you ask. What a surprise, eh?

Already all over it and signed.

My agency was kind enough to put the word out to all.

Signed - I have been passing it on also via email. I am with CCA*I - pretty large china only, accredited agency. I will be calling them tomorrow - they are really, really good about explaining things and they are very very knowledgeable - I trust them 150%. I will pass on what I find out.

I signed.

I believe your agency will just slide you into another agency that is Hague accredited. I don't believe there is any way around the I-800 after you have received your free one.

I am in the same boat girly.. and we do not qualify either.. but my agency said that they would put us with an agency that is Hague accredited.. and then we would be okay.. now it will be a pain to get all that stuff for the 1-800... I have signed and had people sign that petition also and sent the letters.. I am with you..
All of us who are later then now need to really stick together..
Hugs to you..
I hope we all get grandfathered..
Have a Great Week..

Geez, that sucks eggs big time! What does your Agency say about it?

I hope it all goes smoothly.

Suzie said...

My agency is not Hague accredited but said that their dossiers are submitted under an accredited agency. I hope that is true and that I don't have any problems.

I signed the petition and sent an email to everyone that knows about my adoption asking them to do the same. I can't imagine after waiting for so long (25 months already) that something like this could ruin my chances of being a Mom. It really sucks.

Special K,
I have already signed the petition and I will pass the word around. I have a blog and would like to post a link to your entry on this subject (with a link to the petition site too) and then I have a few family members that I would like to send them to as well - is that Okay with you? (I tried e-mailing you from your link but, it wouldn't work for me so I am asking here)
I am a Mama to a beautiful daughter form Jiangxi and I want you to get your Mia home. You can e-mail me at lmwydillon@att.net or leave a comment on my blog

You have our support.

I signed it! They are less than 5000 signatures away from their goal.

I hope everything will fall into place for you, Krista.

((hugs))

Liene said...

Krista I had no idea you were with an agency that doesn't have accreditation either. Please check your inbox - email coming your way.

Debra Sue said...

We are with an agency that is Hague accreditated, and still run the risk of not being approved. On their advice, we let our paperwork totally expire and have to fill out the I-800. Yup. We could be down the drain if they don't "grandfather" us in on China's previous expectations.

Our agency keeps telling us not to panic, that we'll be fine, but that doesn't prevent me from calling them in tears once a month or so.

I am so sorry this could happen to you. So, so sorry.

I'm so sorry that you and so many friends are going through this. Wish I could sign but I don't believe it's open to those living outside the USA. If it is, please let me know.

Praying for you and all the others too.

Keeping my fingers crossed that everything will turn out okay for you, Krista.
