3 Words Sunday

Last week Griffey gave me a little scare. I noticed that he seemed lethargic for a few days. He couldn't jump up on the couch like he normally does. He just wasn't acting like himself. The final straw came when he sat at the top of the stairs and refused to come down. I couldn't even convince him to move with a bag of shredded cheese. Which is like crack to him. I knew something was wrong. And I was really scared. Because several of my friends have lost their beloved dogs within the past year or so. I didn't even want to imagine him being sick.

But just when I was about to pack him up for the vet, he started to perk up. Then I remembered he'd taken a fall on Saturday. His favorite sitting spot is on the arm of the couch. Well, the klutz was stepping from the arm of the couch to the arm of the loveseat and slipped. He got stuck between the two arms and was hanging on with only his front paws and flailing wildly with his back legs. I was sitting right there so I rescued him. I think he may have strained something or maybe was just a little sore for a few days. Cuz by Wednesday he was back to normal. His usual high energy, happy little self. Thank goodness.

God answered my prayers when he made this dog. I'd always wished for the perfect man to come into my life. I just forgot to mention that he should be in human form. So I got a furry soulmate instead. The joke was on me. But we're a team... this crazy dog and I. And I wouldn't want it any other way.

I know the reality is that he won't live forever. But I can't imagine life without him. So I'm very grateful for his good health. Because I know of others who are suffering through the illness or the loss of their own furry soulmates. My heart breaks for them ...... and for me. Cuz I know that someday it'll be my turn. But for today, I won't think about that. I'll appreciate every day that I have him. I'll go on loving him with my whole heart. And spoiling him rotten, too. LOL!

So this week's 3 words are for my first baby. My little furry stinky breath soulmate. My Griffey.

Glad the little guy is okay! We know Harry doesn't have much longer. It hurts just knowing we're going to have to make that decision soon. Cullen is going to take it the hardest. Harry has been with us longer than Cull. Love that little guy while you've got him!

I am soooooo glad Mr. Griffey is feeling better, nothing worse than a sick baby. Jasmin and Moose send a big lick his way to speed up the recovery time.

Good to know it was only a strain/sprain. Bernie pulled one of those on me. Vet says it is some disk. She seems to have fully recovered after costing $264 last week. Grrr...but you know I'd have spent more...Did I mention the vet is currently adding a wing to the office? Ahh, I love my Bernie just as you love Griffey. =)

Interesting, isn't it, how so many of us in the adoption world have furry soulmates? I love mine, as you do. He had a similar mishap a number of years ago. The vet Xrayed and gave anti-inflammatories and kennel rest - fortunately that was all it took. If it hadn't he may have needed back surgery. He has been with me now for almost 10 years - can't imagine life without him.
