A Girl & Her PJ's

"Momma. What are these?"

"OMG! Penguin pajamas?! For me? Oh no way dude!"
"Oh Aunt Krista.... I'm just so choked up. I can't believe you got me my first pair of penguin pj's. You shouldn't have. But thank you. Thank you so much. Do you have a tissue? sniff sniff "

"What do ya think? Man, my brother is gonna be so jealous when he gets a load of these babies!"

"I'm the happiest girl in the world! I love these penguin jammies! You're the best, Aunt Krista!"

"Wait a sec. Hmmmm. Did you see these pants? They look kind of tight. Do you think they'll make my butt look big?"

Guess Who's Coming To Dinner

In about an hour I'm leaving for the airport to pick up my overnight guests. I'm so excited! I'm looking forward to seeing Maryellen again. And I can't wait to meet the beautiful Miss Sophie.

Sophie's surgery is scheduled for Thursday but she has to be at the hospital Tuesday for all her pre-op stuff. They flew in a day early to be on the safe side. Which means tomorrow is a free day. So I got the day off work so we could hang out. We have a few things planned with some local bloggers. Tonight we're having a good old fashioned slumber party. I've got all the necessary supplies.... chips, chocolate, and alcoholic beverages. What else is there? Well, I guess cheerios and grape juice if you're under 2. I've got that covered as well.

You should of seen me trying to install the car seat. Luckily, I bought one about a year ago for a great price. It came in handy for Sophie to borrow while she's here. But they make those things so complicated. I had to call my neighbor (experienced father of 2) to come help me figure it out. But we're all set now.

So I'm off. Don't forget to say a little prayer for both momma and daughter on Thursday. I know they'd appreciate it. I'll post updates when I hear something.

A Shocking Adjustment

Griffey is doing well now that's he back home where he belongs. We've had the Invisible Fence for 3 weeks now. It was necessary because of the way my yard is set up. There's fencing on both sides thanks to my neighbors. But the driveway runs alongside my house and yard to the garage, which sits at the very back of the property. So I can't really physically fence the whole yard. The driveway is open and there's about a 10 foot section next to the garage that is open to the alley. But in all the years I've had Griffey, I've never had a problem with him leaving the yard. Until recently. Remember this? I do. All too well.

He's getting used to the new fence. And he doesn't like it. It took getting zapped a few times to figure out where his boundaries are. But if that's what it takes to keep him safely in the yard then so be it. See the bulky contraption on the collar. We only put it on when we go outside. He looks at me every time like "Awww man. Not that damn thing again. C'mon ...I hate that thing."
I must admit the adjustment was a little hard for both of us. For momma, it was hard to watch him get zapped. Now don't go calling the PETA people on me. It doesn't hurt him. It's just more of an annoying tingle than real pain. Kinda makes his eye twitch a little and he tries to scratch it. But now he's figured out how to back away from the shock zone and make it stop. He's a quick learner so it still isn't set beyond the training level. My woosy boy is only at a level 3. That's all it took.If your dog is defiant and tries to test the system you have to set it higher for a more jarring jolt. But Griffey is no dummy. Or should I say he isn't a bad ass. I guess he's a combination of the two. Basically a smart, chicken shit. LOL! Cuz there's no testing his limits. He won't go near the boundaries now. The collar beeps when he's feeling a little jolt. But my boy doesn't even have to feel anything. Just hearing the beep makes him freeze in his tracks.
We have to keep the training flags up for about another week. They mark where the wires are. Most of it is buried but as you can see there were a few spots where the wire was just tacked into the ground because of my landscaping. Once I take the flags down, the wires won't even be noticeable. And the great thing is that if I ever move to a different house, the system goes with me. I just get new wire.

It's still a little confusing for him though. He's 7 yrs old. He's grown up in this house and suddenly things are different. Certain places he used to be able to go are now off limits. He's still a little timid in the backyard and he's scared to step in the driveway now. Some of the driveway is accessible to him but he's gotten a few zings when he's gotten too close to the edge. So now he thinks the whole driveway is electrocuted or something. He'll just sit at the edge on the grass and look at me like "Uhhh... are you crazy? I'm not stepping out there." I swear I can hear his thought process just by the looks he gives me.
So we're still working on that. Trying to teach him where the safe zones are. But the trainer says it's just a matter of time and he'll figure it all out and be fine. At least, I can rest easy now. He can even be outside unsupervised without any fear of him running away. But momma hasn't gotten that confident yet either. I still watch him like a hawk. I guess in time I'll be trained, too.

Cute T's

The two middle T's with the best aunt in the universe.
Just because we're all so cute.
And because I don't have anything interesting to say today.
Happy Weekend!

Trick-or-Treat '07

As has now become the tradition, I went over to the T's house for trick-or-treat tonight. The weather was nice. Not too cold. And with the shifted around daylight savings time, the sun was still up for almost the whole first hour. My sister and I commented that it actually felt a little strange to be trick-or-treating when it wasn't dark outside.

I was happy to see that the 3 biggest T's finally got new costumes. Yay! Being in a big family, they're usually forced to wear the costumes for at least 2 years. Or wear a hand me down that was worn by the next biggest kid the year before. I'm sick of that damn elephant. Thankfully, Teagan will outgrow it by next year. The trunk sticking straight out of his head just looks like an erect....uhhhh... Teletubbie character. So we have a new race car driver, ninja, and ballerina this year.
This is what it actually looks like from the top of his head. Oh yeah... now you see it. It really is an elephant.
Tanner insisted I take a pic of his best ninja warrior pose. He actually had the nerve to refuse to trick-or-treat at the first couple of houses. He handed me his plastic jack-o-lantern and said he was just going to walk around with us. I guess he thought he was too old for all this nonsense. Until his mom informed him that if he wasn't collecting candy then he would not be eating his brothers' and sister's. He quickly had a change of heart.
This is one of the perks of having so many kids in the family. Just look at that candy pile!! We had a great time. Teagan was really into it this year. He had fun running up to the doors and getting candy with the big kids. Of course, as we were sorting the goods, Aunt Krista needed to sample some of the chocolate to make sure it was safe to eat. Wink wink.
On our route, we stopped by the local fire house to check out the fire trucks. The firemen set up a haunted house inside every year. The boys wanted to check it out. Tatum insisted on going, too. She has to keep up her tough girl image, ya know. It was a little scary. They had strobe lights, fog machines, people in scary masks jumping out at you. But Tatum kept her cool. I kept expecting her to have a meltdown but she didn't. About 30 seconds into it, Travis asked if he could hold my hand though. After we got outside, he said he didn't like it. He came out and told his mom that it "really freaked him out." LOL! Hopefully, we didn't psychologically scar him for the rest of his life.

Below is an illustration of what happens to a normal 4 year old when she has too much candy right before bedtime. You can just see the sugar coarsing through her veins as her eyes begin to bug out of her head.
Suddenly, her body starts to spasm and her tongue flops out uncontrollably in response to the sweets overload.
Her face contorts into an evil grimace until finally.....
she completely loses control of hand and finger movements as well. Be warned. Don't let this happen to your child.
After we were done, Mommy went to work and Aunt Krista went home. Leaving poor Daddy to fend for himself. Muwa ha ha ha.... It'll probably be a pretty good fight to get these 4 into bed tonight. But then again they should be crashing down off their sugar highs any second.

I also made a very important decision tonight. The first year I take Mia trick-or-treating she'll be dressed as a penguin! I may be in my motorized wheelchair and the T's will probably all be married and trick-or-treating with their own kids by then. But I'll have to find the cutest, most amazing penguin costume for her before she gets too opinionated and tries to decide for herself what she wants to dress up as.
Sigh.....someday.

Maddy-licious!

On Saturday Robin & Marty felt sorry for me cuz I had no plans. So they invited me over to watch the OSU-Penn State game. LOL! Oh and did I mention there was this cute kid there named Maddy? She's a big Buckeyes fan, too.

Although she seemed to have more fun tormenting the dog instead of keeping track of the touchdowns. The dog didn't seem to mind so much though.

Her silly daddy knows how to make her giggle.
Who needs toys when you have a cool ball hat to entertain yourself with?

At bath time, we compared scars. She has a zipper scar on her chest from her heart surgery. I have one from my bile leak-sepsis thing. She won. Her's is way cuter. How adorable is her ladybug towel?
Marty had a blender full of heaven waiting for me when I arrived. A man after my own heart! I tell ya, if he wasn't already a happily married man, Robin might just have some competition. LOL!
Okay relax people.... we didn't really let the kid drink it.
Awwww mom... do I have to go to bed now?

Thanks guys for having me over. I had a great time. The margaritas were delish. And so was your girl! She was just the dose of sunshine I needed to brighten my day.

Oh and OSU beat the crap outta Penn! Woo Hoo!

PS. Robin - I'll e-mail you the rest of the pics within the next couple of days.
XOXO
